Havoc is an incredible producer, crafting some of the darkest New York boom bap beats of the 90s, but when it comes to rapping, he's open to working with other beatmakers, most notably on The Silent Partner, his recent collaborative project with The Alchemist. Today, Havoc teams with Philly Wreck on some Bomb Squad-esque production, bringing more of an upbeat energy to his delivery, and a welcome challenge for the Mobb Deep legend. No word on whether there are further collaborations in the works between Hav and Philly.
Tim Westwood Freestyle (2000)
Tim Westwood is sitting on a veritable treasure trove of unreleased radio freestyles from his 25-odd years as a disc jockey. Every week, he dusts off one gem and delivers it to the masses. This week, it's a Mobb Deep freestyle from 2000. The theme here appears to be "Fuck You," as Westwood hand-selects the instrumentals from The LOX's "Fuck You" and Dr. Dre's "Fuck You" for the Mobb Deep emcees to rap over. They go in for nearly 20 minutes, and it feels like they could have gone forever. ICYMI: watch Havoc make a couple beat from scratch below.

It's Mobb Deep
DJ Absolut's #MixtapeMondays series has been a reliable source of new material from wily veterans of the rap game, and the newest installment is maybe the best #MixtapeMonday ever. Absolut delivers a brand new Mobb Deep song entitled "It's Mobb Deep," in which Prodigy and Havoc let the listener know they're still going hard 20 years after The Infamous. The boom bap-style drums are so in the pocket that even the childish xylophone vamp adornment can't stop Prodigy and Havoc from doing their thing.

Worthy of a download?
