Rashad “Hurricane The King (HTK)” Hawkins is an independent Hip Hop Artist/Songwriter/Producer/Videographer/Graphic Designer from Baltimore, MD. Since 2008 HTK has been creating, distributing, and promoting his style of hip-hop music independently in Baltimore, MD and on the internet. HTK has patented an unorthodox rap flow that changes many times during his verses and catches the attention of listeners instantly . The way he weaves his lyrics so effortlessly through instrumentals, easily switching between faster and slower deliveries at will puts HTK in a league of his own as an emcee.
At the age of 16, HTK began to produce his own instrumentals. Drawing inspiration from legendary producers; Kanye West, Timbaland, Heatmakerz, and RZA, HTK uses a “sample-heavy” style that incorporates techniques used in classic hip-hop while adding a new modern flavor to them. HTK is not the typical hip hop producer that also raps on an "less than impressive level", or the rapper that dabbles in production; HTK is an elite rapper and producer who has done what only great artists like Kanye West could do, create the perfect instrumentals that compliments his diverse rap style, thus making for some of the best hip hop music to ever come out of Baltimore,MD.
HTK is the definition of independent. HTK writes his own lyrics, produces his instrumentals, designs his album covers, creates and maintains all of his social media and media sharing site profiles, book his own shows, and so much more.
Since 2012 has begun, HTK has been working on several projects that will be released for sale including his debut album From Me 2 U and several singles that will be available on Itunes, CDBaby, and many other online music stores
On 07/12/12 HTK released his first all instrumental mixtape album titled White Privilege . The album features 16 different instrumentals produced by HTK, and served as a showcase for HTK’s creative range as a producer. The beats on White Privilege incorporates styles and techniques found in many genres of music. One track on the album in particular called Trying to Understand the World , included a sample from Natalie Merchant’s – My Skin, a R&B bass pattern, tribal drums, and a 4-bar reggaeton drum pattern embedded into every verse. White Privilege is currently available for free download athttp://www.datpiff.com/Hurricane-The-King-HTK-White-Privilege-mixtape.372104.html

His unfathomable work ethic is only overshadowed by his desire for social change and commitment to advocacy. In addition to his career as a musician, Rashad "Hurricane The King" Hawkins is also a youth justice advocate and organizer in the state of MD. Rashad organizes grassroots support and builds public awareness about issues and stories of real youth who are charged as adults. Rashad created the youth steering committee for the Just Kids Partnership (an advocacy organization) and is also one of the co-chairmen and main organizers of the widely publicized alliance of organizations that stopped the state of Maryland from constructing a new jail for Baltimore city youth.
The world of Hip hop has never seen an artist quite like Hurricane The King (HTK); it is only a matter of time before he makes a huge impact in the music industry.
