Samples Of The Week: July 31
When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey".
The G-Unit Freestyles: Vote For Your Favorite
For the past two weeks, we've been polling you on your favorite versions of popular tracks. Last week Kevin Gates (somewhat surprisingly) took the cake in the "Cut Her Off" battle, and the week prior, G-Unit won the "0 To 100" contest by a landslide.

Many Men: A History Of G-Unit Beefs
Perhaps it would have been easier to make a list of every rapper that 50 and the crew haven't had any altercations with over the course of their 10 years in the game--it certainly would have required less writing.
50 Cent Just Sold A TV Show To Comedy Central
"Go 'head and switch the style up/And if they hate, then let 'em hate and watch the money pile up" is quickly becoming less of a lyric from 50 Cent's "In Da Club" and more of a mantra that the entrepreneur lives his life by. If you take "style" to mean "profession," Fif's switched it up a lot, going from rapping to acting to advertising to, most recently, executive producing the Starz show "Power." It seems like he's taken a liking to the TV production life, as he just announced that he sold a show to Comedy Central.
50 Cent Shares Further Details On G-Unit Mixtape & Album
G-Unit only reunited at the beginning of the month, but they already have a number of new tracks under their belt. While 50 initially announced plans for an album from the group, speculation arose in light of the freestyles that a mixtape may too be in the works. Fif confirmed this rumor last week, and in a new interview with MTV has shared a few more details concerning the projects..
G-Unit Dropping A New Mixtape Before Its Album?
We all know G-Unit is working on a new album for the fall, but could we be seeing a mixtape beforehand as well? According to Fif we are. In a new interview with Jenny Boom Boom, 50 Cent spoke on several issues going on his life right now, but the one thing that stuck out in the interview was the information retaining the upcoming G-Unit album, and mixtape. Yes, mixtape. Around the 17:40 mark, Fif reveals that the G-Unit album is due out late November/early December and they are also working on a new mixtape which we assume will come out before that.
Hip-Hop's Fashion Evolution
Jay Z made a song dedicated to Tom Ford last year, one of Harlem's hottest rappers wears strictly skinny jeans (A$AP Rocky), and one of the industry's most talked about rappers (Kanye West) is addicted to high-fashion. A little over a decade ago, the genre's finest openly wore baggy clothing, throwback jerseys, and du-rags. It's an understatement to say hip-hop's fashion sense has changed a bit.
Game Details "Blood Money La Familia" Project & "The Documentary 2"
Game remains one of the most consistent rappers in the game. He delivered an extremely solid album with his last project, Jesus Piece, and it sounds like he's going just as hard if not harder on his next project, if his latest leak "Bigger Than Me" is any indication. While visiting DJ Skee, Game cleared up that Blood Money La Familia is not his sixth studio album, he says it's just a compilation for Blood Money.
G-Unit To Release More Music This Week
After performing at the Mets game last night, 50 Cent took to Instagram with a photo of the reunited G-Unit crew alongside R&B hitmaker Jeremih. Captioned "New music coming this week," the picture has led to speculation that Kidd Kidd is now an official member of the multi-platinum hip-hop group, not only signed to the imprint. "This is the UNIT the homie Jeremih rock with use tonight. #smsaudio #power is on catch ep2," captioned 50 on a second photo, a punched-in shot of Jeremih alongside the G-Unit head honcho.
50 Cent Plans To Release "Street King Immortal" In September
You can't knock 50 Cent's hustle. Animal Ambition, his first album in five years, was just released this past Tuesday, and Fif already has another solo project prepped for later this year. Street King Immortal, as it's called, has been in the works since 2012, but earlier this week 50 said it would finally be dropping in September.

G-Unit Possibly Working On New Album [Update: 50 Cent Announces New Album On The Way]
G-Unit returned in full form yesterday, following a reunion on stage at Summer Jam, with a new freestyle over Hit-Boy & HS87's "Grindin' My Whole Life." The track was originally a posse cut from HS87, so there was plenty of space for 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck (and Kidd Kidd) to rap over it.

Summer Jam 2014 Recap
Yesterday the HNHH staff had the pleasure of attending Hot 97's 21st annual Summer Jam, which true to its reputation, ended up being an evening packed with great performances, surprises and even some drama. With the event split into two stages, one in the Festival Village and one in Metlife Stadium, we first hung out at the former with Iggy Azalea, Chinx, Mack Wilds, Childish Gambino and Jhene Aiko before moving inside the stadium for the night's headliners.
G-Unit Reunites At Summer Jam
Apparently 50 likes his milk spoiled. Just a few months after referring to his G-Unit associates as "having an expiration date," the general has officially reunited live onstage with Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and Young Buck. Tonight's Summer Jam performance marks the first time the entire group has performed together since 2008 when 50 leaked audio of Buck crying to him for advice to the internet, prompting a split between the Straight Outta Ca$hville rapper and the G-Unit head honcho. This is also 50 Cent's first time headlining a Summer Jam show in over a decade.
50 Cent "Couldn't Get Past" The Thought That Donald Sterling's Girlfriend "Betrayed" Him
Many rappers have weighed in on the Donald Sterling controversy, the majority of which have been furious with the former Clippers owner over his racist comments. 50 Cent however, seems to be more concerned with how Sterling himself was treated in the situation.
50 Cent Says G-Unit Is "Dismantled"
It's no secret that the once-strong walls of G-Unit have been crumbling for some time, with Tony Yayo declaring that money ruined the group last year, and 50 Cent stopping short of saying the group was "dead" earlier this month.

50 Cent has been doing the interview circuit later, and he's taken no prisoners when addressing his former G-Unit collaborators. While he's made a few comments about the rapper's that once occupied his circle, including calling them Troy Ave's hype men, one comment stood out in particular.
50 Cent Explains What Happened With G-Unit Crew Members
50 Cent recently sat down to talk with Hot 97, and it was definitely a lengthy interview, broken up into two parts it lasted an hour. The topics they broached were plentiful, including the New York rap scene and whether or not it's been revived, G-Unit and crews in general, as well as Summer Jam, and 50 sitting on a plane beside Ja Rule and his beef with the rapper (and Rick Ross beef).
