Jovan M. Hardy, p.k.a. FreshBoy Joe was born into a musically inclined family, November 1983. His grandfather, DA Bookman, is a saxophone player who currently plays around the Los Angeles area with The PCH Band, which he formed several years ago. DA’s had the unique opportunity to travel the world and play with many famous entertainers such as the late Hank Ballard and the Midnighter's, Mickey Howard, and the late Edwin Starr just to name a few. His ability to make that saxophone sign brought him recognition from the late Marvin Gaye.
While sitting in a high school classroom, he composed his first rap song and performed it for a few of his friends. A few years later, with help from being exposed to a variety of music, he started to create his own sound. His first studio consisted of the inside of a closet where he setup equipment and spent hours perfecting his craft. His music was so unique and advanced, his grandfather and uncle’s labeled him the “Mad Scientist.”
As a teenager, Jovan was introduced to Keith Andies, an award- winning producer, responsible for creating hit songs for Baby Face Edmunds and several other award-winning artists. Keith was so impressed with Jovan’s skill level at his age, he asked him to intern for him giving Jovan the opportunity to learn everything he could from the inside of a real studio getting exposed to the process of how a recording session is professionally done. The experience only furthered Jovan’s interest more.
