Top 5 "Shook Ones" Freestyles
Fabolous' latest giveaway is not your average freestyle--it was a major statement. Most rappers, wisely, would shy away from such a beat--"Shook Ones", the lead off Mobb Deep's legendary The Infamous. But Fabo gave it a good shot. The best? You decide.
E-40 is still a relevant rapper in 2015, but is everyone aware of this dude's tenure in the game? The 47-year-old rapper has been crushing it since 1990 with his flamboyant style of rapping. He stayed in the underground until about 1995 when his album In A Major Way was released. Slowly, people started catching on to the west coast sound, where a quirky style of funky raps were taking over.
Two Members Of Nicki Minaj's Tour Team Stabbed In Philadelphia, One Killed
Nicki Minaj delivered some sad news to her fans this afternoon. De'Von Pickett and Eric Parker, who had flown to Philadelphia to assist Nicki Minaj with her tour rehearsals, were both stabbed outside of a bar in the city last night. Pickett died from his wounds, while Parker is still in critical condition. According to Nicki's post on Instagram, the two men had been in town for the tour for two days before the attack. She described the event as "Another senseless act of violence that took the life of a great guy. So sad."
Fabolous Will Re-Release "The Young OG Project"
On Christmas Day, Fabolous dropped The Young OG Project, his first album in over four years. The album was a commercial success, debuting at #12 on Billboard. Fabo intended the project to be an ode to 90s golden age hip-hop, including tributes to past legends, while featuring spots from today's rising stars like French Montana and Rich Homie Quan.
Fabolous Went To Ferguson To Meet Mike Brown's Father
We've seen quite a few rappers do their part by paying tribute to police brutality victim Mike Brown on record, as well as participating in local protests, but only a select few have made it out to Ferguson -- the location of the tragic shooting -- to show their support. Both J. Cole and Macklemore have made it out to St. Louis since the event occurred, and now Fabolous has made an effort to visit the city.
Review: Fabolous' "The Young OG Project"
Fabolous has always done a solid job at blending in with his environment. Whether he’s cutting with DJ Clue and The Neptunes in 2001 or jiving with Rich Homie Quan in 2015, he’s done a phenomenal job at adapting to change and staying relevant, something that is easier said than done.
Charts Don't Lie: January 4
This week we see a few fluctuations within Charts Don't Lie, however Nicki Minaj keeps the #2 spot on lock with The Pinkprint. It's not a bad resting place per say, although we're sure #1 would have felt that much better. Nicki's numbers have been better than we expected, however, they're no Taylor Swift. In her second week out, she brought her total sales to just over 300k-- J. Cole, on the other hand, has already gone gold, and nears the 600k mark in his third week out.
Samples Of The Week: January 1 (Fabolous Edition)
When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey".
