Drake gave us one of the most iconic rap Grammy moments of all time a few years back, and it didn't even take place at the Grammys. In a flex that will last the ages, Drizzy filmed himself (and his OVO buddies) taking shots from his trophy after it arrived in the mail.

Drake still may still be looking for a Hot 100 number one as a lead artist, but his sheer number of entries to the chart is nothing to scoff at. In fact, this week it saw him passing one of the biggest and most respected musical acts of all time. That's right, Drizzy now has more Hot 100 singles than The Beatles.

SBTRKT took the world by storm with his first LP. Released at the base of the alternative R&B explosion, the album perfectly blended dance music and soul, even catching the eye of Drake and inspiring him to drop a verse on "Wildfire," which in turn became more popular than the original (but that's every day for Drake). How will SBTRKT's second album stack up to the first one? Let's take a look...

Few names have taken the hip-hop world by storm like ILoveMakonnen has in the last few months. A buzz-worthy mixtape artist came to mainstream fame after signing to Drake's OVO Sound label, along with having Drizzy blessing his single "Tuesday" with a verse. ILoveMakonnen's career hasn't been the same since, and Tuesdays at the club have been going up ever since.

Last night, the "Drake Vs. Lil Wayne" tour concluded in Houston, with the pair of star rappers ending their summer-long, Street Fighter-inspired battle in a tie. After announcing that he and his YMCMB mentor had come up even at the end of the several-months-long tour, Drizzy gave fans who missed out on these dates a little bit of hope in the form of hinting at a "Drake Vs. Lil Wayne" round two.

Today, a "posse cut" is more or less a marketing scheme. For a record label, what easier way is there to sell a single than by getting all of the biggest artists of the time and putting them on one song? It's like The Avengers for rap fans! For this list, we attempt to illustrate the evolution of hip-hop's sound over time. Beginning in the late 1980s and carry through to today, the posse cuts found here are presented in chronological order for direct comparison to songs of rap music's past.

Soulja Boy Says He Inspired The "Every Single Chain" Line On Drake's "Started From The Bottom"

One of the most commonly cited, quoted and laughed-about Drake lyrics is the almost impossibly arrogant "I wear every single chain, even when I'm in the house" in "Started From The Bottom." Ringing a little hyperbolic when rapped by Drizzy, the lyric seemed slightly out of character for the usually-relatively-humble rapper, and now we may know why: it was inspired by Soulja Boy.

The Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour is definitely all about the friendly competition between the two high profile rappers, but for the remaining dates on the tour, they've decided to recruit a third act for the show. While the setup unfortunately won't be Drake vs. Lil Wayne vs. YG, the My Krazy Life rapper will be joining the two Cash Money stars for the est coast dates of the tour, serving instead as the opening act.

Drake already has a handle on the rap game, but it seems he's really focusing on breaking artists these days. Over the last year or so we've seen him add verses to tracks from Migos, Soulja Boy, Tinashe, and most recently, iLoveMakonnen, often fast-tracking them to the big leagues.

Jhene Aiko's long-awaited debut album, Souled Out is dropping next week, and the free spirited singer has gained a considerable amount of hype around the release. While her Sail Out EP featured plenty of rap features, her new effort will be made up of solo recordings for the most part, which is surprising, considering the high profile connections she's been able to make since rising to fame.

Is "808s & Heartbreak" Kanye West's Most Influential Album?
    Aug 30, 2014 at 02:58 PM
In 2014, it's no secret that where Kanye West goes, the rest of hip-hop follows. Starting with him and Just Blaze making "chipmunk soul" a hot sound in Roc-A-Fella's prime, Mr. West's musical output has always been a pretty good gauge of where hip-hop is headed, whether it be his early mantra of having a "Benz and a backpack" or his drill-invigorating remix of Chief Keef's "I Don't Like." But in a career filled with moments of trendsetting and breaking the mold, one era and album stand out as far more influential and forward-thinking than anything West's ever done.

Isn't this something? Not only is Meek Mill in jail and his sophomore album is delayed indefinitely, but Jeezy also took a trip behind bars after getting caught with an assault rifle. He posted the $1 million bail, but the CTE suddenly got trouble on his head after pleading not guilty.

After collaborating with everyone from Lupe Fiasco to Snoop Dogg this year, the L.A.-based singer was hoping to snag Drake for the remix of his song "Or Nah," but wound up linking up with another huge artist after Drizzy failed to deliver his verse.

If there's one thing hip-hop fans would probably never expect from Drake (you know, this guy), it would probably be the YMCMB emcee stepping into the battle rap arena. According to Murda Mook, however, that fantasy may soon be a reality. “So this is @champagnepapi telling me he wants to battle me," captioned Mook on a recently posted Instagram photo. "And he is actually serious! Who got the check?”
