The state of high-profile stars' song creation processes is such that we often don't know how credited songwriters and/or guests factor into the equation until long after the song is released. Time and time again this year, we've seen "original versions" by people other than the lead artists surface, basically proving that they're the main crative forces behind the song in question.

When Drake and Future linked up just over a year ago for What A Time To Be Alive, it was an almost earth-shattering event in hip hop, regardless of the album's quality. One was (and still is) undeniably the most popular rapper on the planet, and the other was (and probably isn't at the moment) the hottest, the guy who was just capping one of the craziest 12-month runs we've seen in this decade.
Meek Mill's Verse Was Cut Off On His Own Song On OVO Sound Radio
Meek Mill's Verse Was Cut Off On His Own Song On OVO Sound Radio Nov 6, 2016 at 03:18pm
Drake and Meek Mill still aren't on good terms, and while a Meek Mill song was technically played on Saturday night's episode of OVO Sound Radio, it hasn't exactly patched things up between the two. Early in Oliver El-Khatib's mix, Meek's DC4 highlight "Offended" began playing, surprising many fans, but following Young Thug's opening verse, just as Meek was about to enter, the song was cut and Drake's "Sneakin'" was played. It's possible this was all just a strange coincidence, but it was flagrant enough to get people talking on Twitter.

Zaytoven Talks Producing Future & Drake's "Used To This," Gives Updates On "Beast Mode 16" & "6'ers" Nov 5, 2016 at 10:28am
On Friday, Future released his new Drake-assisted single, "Used To This," which featured an especially colorful piano-led beat from Zaytoven. Hearing Zay's keys on the record suggested that perhaps Future's long-awaited sequel to his Beast Mode mixtape (a full length collaboration with the producer), tentatively titled Beast Mode 16, was on its way -- so we had to talk to Zaytoven to get the details.

21 Savage On Drake & Meek Mill: "Them Both My Homies" Nov 3, 2016 at 01:39pm
This year has been good to 21 Savage, as perhaps no rapper has experienced a quicker rise to the top. And October was his most successful month yet. He celebrated his 24th birthday on the 22nd, and in the week that followed, he appeared on collaborations with both Drake and Meek Mill.
The Best Hip Hop Songs (On Spotify) Of October 2016
The Best Hip Hop Songs (On Spotify) Of October 2016 Nov 3, 2016 at 12:23pm
Earlier this year, HNHH launched a Spotify playlist called FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now.  The playlist is updated on a daily basis. It lives on Spotify and thus is inherently imperfect, because not all super-hot hip hop songs have been added to Spotify. Still, the playlist is generally representative of the best new releases in hip hop and R&B.

Travis Scott, Rihanna, and the new one from D.R.A.M. represent in the teens, while Kanye West, Solange, Rae Sremmurd, Chance The Rapper, and 21 Savage/Metro Boomin take us up into the 30s.

For the past few years it's been clear that regardless of quality, everything Drake announces or releases is guaranteed to produce more pageviews on HNHH than any of his contemporaries. We've known this for a while and capitalized upon it a few times, which many of you have noticed and decried, but hey, you're still clicking on it. Drizzy dropped four tracks on OVO Sound Radio last weekend and nothing has changed, despite the fact that they did arrive too late for last week's Top Tracks list.
