James Alexander Lucca was born and raised in Washington Heights, NY which is located in Uptown, Manhattan. Growing up in New York City and a place where all kids around him were dealing with drugs or gangs, Alex stayed the same. He kept himself busy with skateboarding, being active, wrestling or writing. He wrestled for a while under the name Alex James but always wrote rhymes and poems about how he was feeling and what he was dealing with. When Alex turned 16, he decided to drop everything else and put his lyrical ability to work. He had realized that he was in love with music for a while now. He believed that someday he would give the word DOPE a good name and start a movement with it, hence where he got the name Dope Spitta Lex. He released a few tracks and began to record at his friends home studio with their little music group, SRP (So Raw Productions). In the Summer of 2011, who we now know as Lex released his first mixtape titled Back to the Future. The mixtape drew a lot of fans to him but also a lot of hate and negative talk about good lyrics but no flow. Dope Spitta Lex knew he had to fix his flow up so people could understand him more. He took it right back to his friend's home studio and prepared the sequel Back to the Future 2 which was a success in the Winter of 2011. The Back to the Future 2 mixtape brought music videos that reached thousands of views in days, a bigger fan base and a spot on the HotNewHipHop.com charts that Lex would never forget. On the night of the Back to the Future 2 mixtape release, the tape went #3 on HotNewHipHop.com's TOP 100 Hottest Mixtapes with Up & Coming Artists. Passing Mac Miller's Black Friday mixtape and being under Drake's leaked Take Care album. All of this hype and success landed Lex a spot in HF's (Holy F*ck) music group/small record label with Nino Green and other young artists blowing up on the East Coast. He then realized he wasn't giving up on what he was in love with and he was going to do nothing but work harder than he already was. Dope Spitta Lex believes in being yourself and leading instead of following the crowd. He also believes that doing drugs and drinking alcohol to make stress go away is the biggest lie that people need to realize. His only addiction is music. Lex continues to make his DOPE music and hopes that his music and rising movement can someday be everyone else's dope. In other words, a positive movement and lifestyle people could live.
