The celebration of 4/20 is generally a joyous one in the hip hop community, but the day before is always saddened by the anniversary of a legend's passing. Guru, of Gang Starr, passed away on April 19, 2010 after a fight with cancer, and from that day forward rap music has been without one of its brightest stars.

1994 was a ground-breaking year for hip hop music. 1994 is to hip hop what 1969 is to psychedelic rock or what 1977 is to disco. 1994 was the year in which hip hop exploded from the underground onto the mainstream. Looking back, Illmatic and Ready To Die dominate the historical landscape, and obscure lesser-known but still-classic albums from artists like O.C., Warren G and Gang Starr.

Almost all the tracks on The Life of Pablo are great. The one I've probably played the least is the one that doesn't have a beat, "I Love Kanye," the a cappella track that landed between "Freestyle 4" and "Waves." Still, it's an essential part of the album, finding Kanye amused by the tendency of the public to pit different "Kanyes," defined by each mini-era throughout his music career, against one another.

#TBT: DJ Premier's 1990s Productions
DJ Premier was born in Texas in 1966, before moving to New York City during his teenage years. It was there that he would become an integral part of hip hop's blossoming in the 80s and 90s. Along with Guru, he was half of the seminal duo Gang Starr. With Nas, he produced three of the tracks off Illmatic, one of the great classic records of the golden era.

New Era and Ma Dukes (J Dilla’s mom) have unveiled the full lineup for the upcoming J Dilla Weekend 2016, honoring the late beatmaker and emcee. Royce Da 5'9" Hints At "PRhyme 2," Requests Features From Kendrick Lamar & Eminem
Royce Da 5'9" has decided to conceptualize another new project with DJ Premier on Twitter today. He started out by launching the hashtag, "#PRhymeTWO," before hitting Premier with some motivation, writing "I need to let these ideas out my brain bruh." From there, he called out to Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and The Game, looking for potential collaborators -- "real lyricists" who are "ready to spar".
DJ Rhettmatic Confirms Dr. Dre X DJ Premier Collab
DJ Premier recently posted a cryptic but promising Instagram picture of him posing with Dr. Dre, "PUTTIN' IN WORK, according to Premier's caption. As is turns out, he really was putting in work with The Good Doctor. According to an Instagram post authored by DJ Rhettmatic. the two got together to produce one of the songs on the upcoming Compton: The Soundtrack.

DJ Premier Shutters Studio, Announces New Album "Last Session @320"
Over the past 30 or so years, DJ Premier has made his mark on hip-hop in a way that few producers have. Most recently, he did it with Adrian Younge and Royce Da 5'9", his two cohorts in PRhyme, but this year, things are changing for the veteran. First off, he'll be shuttering his longtime recording space at D&D Studios (known as "The HeadQcouterz"), but then he'll be relocating to a space in Astoria, Queens, and releasing a new album.
