About Bump J

"Back in 2003, Chicago Rapper Bump J and his crew The Goon Squad built a formidable following by appearing on countless mixtapes, taking over the streets of Chicago in a way not seen since the days of Larry Hoover and Jeff Forte. By late 2004, Bump J’s buzz landed him a deal with Atlantic Records for over $1 million, the biggest record deal since 50 Cent, and began working with Kanye West on his debut album, Nothing to Lose. Soon after, he signed a $1 million publishing deal with Reindorf Publishing Company after his Kanye West produced "Move Around" record was used in McDonald's commercials during the 2005 NBA Finals. In early 2006, Bump J got mixed up in some internal beef between the parent label and the imprint he was signed to and his album was placed on the shelf. By early 2008, Bump J had negotiated his release from Atlantic Records with a $250,000 severance package and was in the studio working with Kanye West and NoID on a new album. He was arrested in November 2008 and was charged as one of two gunmen suspected of robbing a Chicago Chase Bank in January 2007. He received the minimum sentence. He will serve seven years for illegally holding a gun and 37 months for his part in the bank robbery, to be served consecutively
