The majority of the information we've gotten from the Lil Wayne / Birdman beef that began last December has come from Weezy's camp. He was the one who started things by tweeting that Cash Money was refusing to release Tha Carter V, and since then, lawsuits, diss tracks and onstage insults have followed, all of which have gone unanswered by Stunna. Yesterday, though, the Cash Money CEO sat down with Angie Martinez for an interview that was supposed to set the record straight.

Even as little as nine months ago, no one would have really expected Birdman and Lil Wayne to beef. The two Cash Money titans had a bond that seemed more powerful than your run-of-the-mill rapper/CEO relationship, with their father/son dynamic even birthing an album of its own earlier in the 2000s, and a sense of loyalty that seemed out-of-character for Birdman, at least when you considered his relationships with other Cash Money artists.

Since the defection and lawsuit of former right-hand man Lil Wayne at the top of 2015, Birdman has been taking one L after another. He has few if any reputed allies left, and evidence strongly suggests that neither Nicki Minaj nor Drake will be returning to Cash Money once their contracts expire. Let's look back at the first half of 2015 through the lens of Birdman-related fiascos.

After dominating the majority of the most recent millennium, Free Weezy Album marks Lil Wayne's first foray into generating music without the safety net of the Cash Money Records machine that helped make him. More than that, it’s Weezy’s first opportunity to air a slew of infamous grievances, whether it be his fallout with Birdman or new beefs. Of paramount, though, it is the beginning of one of the game’s most dangerous MC's independence.

Last year, we examined the ever-changing definition of "beef" in hip hop, observing how inter-artist disputes have increasingly unfolded online and perhaps become more petty since the term was coined in the '90s. That's held true in 2015, as we've seen more than a few Twitter or Instagram-based disputes play out in the year's first six months.

The sad part is, none of it seems to be his fault. Today, however, we got "Glory," a brand new Weezy single, premiered exclusively on TIDAL.

Forbes' annual list of the five wealthiest artists in hip hop didn't change much in 2015, with Diddy, Dr. Dre, Jay Z, 50 Cent and Birdman all making the cut again. The only noticeable shift was Stunna going from number four to five, and now we've got some news that may partially explain his slight drop in earnings. The Cash Money CEO was recently hit with two separate tax liens from the IRS for unpaid back taxes, totaling around $2 million.

In recent times, Forbes' annual list of hip hop's five wealthiest artists has become less of a race and more of an established pantheon, and this year's no different. With the exception of two artists switching between the fourth and fifth spots, 2015's list is identical to last year's. With the exception of Birdman (who moved from fourth to fifth place on the list), everyone is worth more this year.
