Beyoncé was definitely the center of attention when she released her surprise self-titled album last December. She also seemingly inspired other artists to release music in a similar way, which may be part of the reason she was tapped for TIME's "100 Most Influential People Of 2014" list.
It seems that every time Future talks about his role in allegedly writing "Drunk In Love" it becomes more convoluted. The controversy began when Fewtch debuted his song, "Good Morning" -- which bears quite a resemblance to "Drunk In Love" -- live at SXSW.
Beyonce tends to share personal photos from her adventures, whether that be day-to-day life or travels around the world, on her Tumblr page. This was the case for their vacation to Cuba, which caused quite the stir last year, as well as, more recently, their New Year's Eve photos.
Beyonce channels Marilyn Monroe with short blonde hair for her new cover of OUT magazine. The Queen Bey shot a bunch of black and white photographs with OUT for their latest issue, and this makes for her first cover since she dropped her surprise self-titled album.
Future debuted a new song at SXSW that bore a striking resemblance to Beyoncé's "Drunk In Love". Due to his brief (somewhat confusing) introduction to the track, as well as the melodic similarities within it, rumors began to circulate that Future had a role in writing the song.
There are only two new entries within the top 10 of the Billboard 200 this week, and they belong to two rappers: ScHoolboy Q and Kid Cudi. As we said last week, Q was projected to move 150-160k, but fell slightly under that by moving 138,950 copies opening week.
It's almost time for the ScHoolboy Q and Kid Cudi chart invasion, but not just yet. We received the first week sales projection for both rappers respective releases, Oxymoron and Satellite Flight, and both are on track to sell a solid amount of albums.
As soon as Kid Cudi surprise-released his new album Satellite Flight, people started saying he'd "pulled a Beyoncé", something that was also said the Air Yeezys dropped, so it's only a matter of time before Beyoncé just becomes a synonym for "surprise".
Overall album sales are up this week by 20% according to Nielsen, and we may have Valentine's Day purchases to blame for this one. Perhaps lovers were picking up Drake's Nothing Was The Same, and some r'n'b albums for V-Day? Along with Drake seeing a rise in sales, so did Justin Timberlake, R.
Terius Youngdell Nash is very well-known in the R&B world as a producer/singer/writer. He's worked with just about everyone in the business, including artists such as Jay-Z, Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, J.Holiday, Yung Joc & Diddy.
This week the charts remained relatively calm, with no hip-hop new-comers to speak of yet. However, Ty Dolla $ign recently dropped his new Beach House EP, so we'll have to see how well that does sales-wise next week.
Billboard has released its 2014 "Power 100" list, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Jay Z and Beyonce were given the #1 spot on this list. This comes after the power couple earned the #1 spot of Forbes' Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples list. Obviously money and power are connected.
Beyonce has seen both praise and criticism for her proclaimed feminism, but her latest self-titled project generally saw more of the former. Bey has now taken her feminist views off record, with the decision to pen an essay for journalist Maria Shriver's publication, "The Shriver Report".
There aren't very many changes in this week's Charts Don't Lie compared to last week. The main list of artists has remained the same, as we have yet to receive any new rap or r'n'b debuts on the Billboard 200, although Kid Ink's debut album My Own Lane will begin charting in the near future.
Blue Ivy Carter celebrated her second birthday in spectacular fashion this past Tuesday (1/7). Jay Z and Beyonce decided to rent out Miami’s Jungle Island, which is an amusement park that includes a wildlife park and botanical garden, for their daughter’s once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
