Ab-Soul: "This Bench Is Getting Warm As Fuck"
Top Dawg Entertainment’s stable of emcees is one of the best in the game. However, it can be tough to keep everyone happy with so many mouths to feed, so to speak. Ab-Soul is the only artist of the bunch who hasn’t released a critically-acclaimed and widely promoted album. His last project, These Days… came out after ScHoolboy Q’s widely popular Oxymoron but it didn’t receive nearly same amount of promotion. The same goes for Jay Rock’s 90059 and any of Kendrick Lamar’s albums.
TDE President Promises Four New Albums This Year

Kendrick Lamar Brings Out Big Sean & Ty Dolla $ign At TDE Holiday Concert
TDE hosted their second annual holiday concert yesterday at Nickerson Gardens, the Watts, CA housing projects where Jay Rock and TDE head honcho Anthony "Top Dog" Tiffith grew up. After giving away innumerable toys, the squad got together for a brief set, performing "Vice City" and their biggest individual hits before bringing out Big Sean for "Alright" & "Blessings" and then Ty Dolla $ign for "Blase." The overcast skies prevented TDE and its fans from enjoying some classic LA sunshine, it was an afternoon for the ages in South Central.

Would you believe that Jay Rock has been signed to Top Dawg Entertainment for ten years? They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, and apparently TDE wasn’t either, because Anthony Tiffith and his group of MCs have been hacking at this hip hop thing for a while now.

This week, Future's DS2 dominated the conversation, but there was plenty more going on around the hip hopsphere. All this and more on this week's edition of 140 Bars.

10 Best Hip-Hop Crews Of All Time
The hip hop crew is an essential part of success. Whether big or small, every rapper has an entourage. Sometimes it's full of rappers, and other times it's just his buddies from back in the day, nonetheless, weak links in a crew can water down the crew as a whole-- something we took into consideration when crafting this list. You have the multimedia approach that Odd Future takes, and also the full-on lyrical assault that Wu-Tang Clan makes. Both are great crews, but who would comprise a list of the best rap crews of all time?
Ab-Soul Hints At Collaboration With Isaiah Rashad
Both Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad have been noticeably absent from our lives. TDE definitely embraces the motto, "quality over quantity," often taking their time between project releases. Since Soulo's These Days... and the accompanying tour, the rapper has laid low-key, however he took to his not-often-used Instagram last night to throw up a photo of himself and Isaiah Rashad, hinting at a collaboration to come. Isaiah Rashad has been equally absent since his debut, Cilvia Demo in 2014.

Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q both stunned with their respective albums and have forged lanes of their own as Cali's most talented artists. A little under two weeks ago, Ab-Soul surprised us all by dropping a track entitled "W.W.S.D." out of the blue. The one-off track bore similar artwork to his album These Days, but its sonic characteristics couldn't have been more different from the album's overall character.
Samples Of The Week: October 2
When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey". This week, see who Ab-Soul, OnCue and Rick Ross & Stalley sampled on their recent tracks, all of which can be found on HNHH.
