LL Cool J Features On Brad Paisley's "Accidental Racist"
“Accidental Racist” by country singer Brad Paisley is a bizarre song on so many levels.
But hip-hop could never have anticipated that LL Cool J would decide to feature on the track. The decision alone to include himself was pretty embarrassing, never mind the lyrics he provides which include, “Just because my pants are sagging doesn't mean I'm up to no good” and, “If you don't judge my gold chains I'll forget the iron chains.” Yikes.
Despite their efforts, this track did not wave a magic wand over bettering race relations, but it did leave us shaking our heads at LL Cool J’s cringe worthy lyrics.
Miguel Leg Drops Girl At Billboard Music Awards 2013
At last year's Billboard Music Awards, Miguel proved that in addition to his dope singing abilities, he is also quite the wrestler when he (accidentally) drop-kicked a fan in the audience, giving the best WWE stars a run for their money.
The singer goes in pretty hard at his live performances giving lots of energy. But he may have been a little too hyped up while singing “Adorn,” when he went to execute the splits and ended up hitting the head of a female fan. It looked a little painful to say the least.
Miguel, ever the professional, styled it out as if nothing had happened during the performance. But Billboard caught up with him after his set where he was joined by the injured fan, Khyati Shah, who had an ice pack on her elbow. The interview was somewhat awkward as he showed remorse for the fan.
The incident was not left at the Awards however, as you may remember Shah then attempted to bring a lawsuit to Miguel for suspected brain damage.
No doubt a fail, but some of the memes and gifs that came from this were priceless.
Kanye Walks Into A Pole
You had to feel a little sorry for Kanye when footage circulated of him walking head first into a pole.
Yeezy is constantly hounded by paparazzi and mid-last year he was caught by them in Beverley Hills heading out with his baby mama Kim Kardashian. Walking with his head down to avoid the cameras, he walked straight into a street sign, which ironically enough said, “Wrong Way.”
Hot-headed Kanye then proceeded to lash out on the photographers who saw their opportunity and snapped away at an injured Yeezy who shouted “Don't take a-fucking-nother photo man. Don't take another fucking photo man! Don't take no photos! Stop it! All of you motherfuckers stop it, man!”
Chief Keef Weed Tweets While In Rehab
The 18-year old rapper who has been in a rehab facility as of late to kick his marijuana habit, continues to be very active on Twitter. But he raised a few eyebrows when he tweeted about a fellow rehab buddy stealing his weed. Yes, the same drug that Keef’s in rehab for.
Keef tweeted,“Dis bitch wanna smoke all of my weed!”
Keef needs to be clean otherwise failing a drug test is likely to put him back behind bars.
Not a smart move Chief, not a smart move.
Dis bitch wanna smoke All of my weed!— AlmightySo (@ChiefKeef) January 4, 2014
Gucci Mane Changes His Name To "Guwop" For Approximately 10 Minutes
Gucci Mane really was quite the character last year. But he really had us confused when he announced on Twitter that he would be changing his name to “Guwop” retiring what we all know him as, Gucci Mane. Catchy right?
The rapper’s name change lasted for a whole 10 minutes after which he took to Twitter (clearly a dangerous platform for Gucci) to confirm that he would not be changing his name due to the reaction from his fans.
DJ Khaled’s attempt to garner attention for his album Suffering From Success with this publicity stunt, which left us rolling our eyes.
The We The Best Music Group star put on his most convincing performance proposing to Nicki Minaj with a $500,000 Rafaello and Co. diamond ring on MTV News, complete with cheesy romantic music playing in the background.
Nicki Minaj barely went along with it, as she denied her interest and referred to Khaled as her “brother.” Consequently it was clear that Khaled was just desperate for a news story in the run up to the release of Suffering From Success rather than wanting to wife-up Nicki.
Nice try DJ Khaled.
Trinidad James Freestyles On Tim Westwood's Crib Sessions
Tim Westwood has always had some of the dopest freestyles on his Crib Sessions. Some of the best include Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi and The Game. Giving a freestyle is obviously no easy feat, but these rappers showed their skills and ability to spit pure bars.
However when Trinidad James was invited onto the show to freestyle, we were left scratching our heads.
The “All Gold Everything” rapper was filmed spitting over Drake’s “Pound Cake” beat and it was pretty dire to say the least. James gave some weak bars and seemed to run out of lines looking around to see what he incorporate into his freestyle. At one point, even the wall failed him of inspiration, as he rapped, “What else is on the wall?”
Much of the freestyle consisted of rambling as Trinidad James appeared out of his element when he rapped lines such as, “I’m Trayvon serious, y'all nigga is playing I’ll leave you red like a period.”
At least the James admitted in his set that he was not quite the lyrical king of freestyles, "Off the top nigga real lyrical/Not really nigga spitting real shit for you."
Yelawolf Poses With The Confederate Flag
Yelawolf really didn’t do himself any favors when he Instagrammed pictures of himself draped in the Confederate flag. The post included, not one, but a collection of pictures featuring the flag.
The rapper, who is from Alabama and probably saw it as a reflection of his Southern culture, very quickly deleted the pictures shortly after posting them no doubt due to the reaction it created. Unlucky for him, deleting the pics doesn't mean that they were wiped from the internet forever.
Working in a genre with a legacy created by African-Americans, you would think that Yelawolf would have known better.
Wale Threatens Complex
Wale has proved on a number of occasions that sometimes, he just needs to calm down.
Last month, Complex released their staff list of their "50 Best Albums of 2013." Wale’s 2013 release, The Gifted did not make the cut which led to Complex getting a very angry phone call from the MMG rapper.
Upset he didn’t make the list, he then proceeded to make threats on the call, as he couldn’t quite comprehend how his work was not included, “You telling me it’s not personal. It's like a bold face lie. To be omitted from every type of list that y’all do or be at the bottom of it or every type of way that y’all can omit me, ya will.” Wale was clearly hurt.
But Wale’s forced Complex’s security to be on standby when he threatened violence against the site’s staff, “I swear to God I’ll come to that office and start knocking niggas the fuck out. Alright. I'll see y'all tomorrow. Get the security ready.”
Wale showed he could really do with some anger management classes.
Chris Brown Attempts To Bring Weed Into Rehab
Chris Brown at the best of times fails to understand the rules of rehab.
Last year, Brown made the news for attempting to bring weed into rehab, and unsurprisingly was denied, which we reported to you in November. Facing 90 days in rehab after his probation hearing for the Rihanna case, Breezy gave up most of his possessions, but refused to give up his weed. Brown insisted that the marijuana was prescribed to him for depression by a doctor. The rehab staff were taking none of it despite the singer’s reasons.
Not so long before this Brown had been kicked out of rehab after just 16 days, when he was said to have thrown a rock through his mom’s car window.
Kanye Freestyles On Sway Interview
Yes, you all remember THAT recent Kanye West interview with Sway – “You ain’t got the answers Sway!”
Well you may also remember the point in the interview when Sway asked Kanye to give us a freestyle to which Yeezy was initially reluctant, saying, “I ain’t got no new verse.” But of course this is Kanye West we are talking about, a man oozing with creativity, and the creator of some of the finest hip-hop of this decade.
Nine Inch Nails’s track “Closer” was played for Kanye to rap over, only for him to provide probably one of the worst freestyles we have ever heard from him. West rapped:
“I can make shit rhyme / I can make shit rhyme if I feel like / Even if I don’t so I just might not / Cause I don’t want to and I’m just gonna freestyle for the first time / With a freestyle that don’t even go together”
What could have been a display of some fine freestyling from Kanye in 2013, just turned out to be, well, awkward. The vibe of the freestyle was summed up well by Sway, when he asked him at the end, “That’s what you gonna leave us with?” Indeed.
HotNewHipHop gives you a collection of some of the recent fails in hip-hop memory.
Hip-hop artists stunt exceptionally well at the best of times. Whether it’s dope performances, providing quality albums, or being trendsetters, there’s always a lot to be celebrated within rap music.
However, even the most successful of hip-hop artists miss the mark sometimes (some more than others!). While we definitely enjoy their best moments, we can also sometimes enjoy their failings-- it just reminds us that they're as human as any of us, and brings them back down to earth if only slightly.
We're taking a look at some of the recent moments in rap that will make you shake your head, feel extremely awkward and/or make you laugh. Enjoy.
